Great to read your intros. I'm more of the 'wordy' type like Cyril, I do quite a bit of writing and I'm a columnist. My background is IT/Social Media management. I love engaging with people.
However sometimes there just aren't enough words in the English dictionary and enjoy getting some headspace by pondering over art.
Thanks for joining this group. I'd always be up for a group outing to a gallery/exhibition.
Meanwhile it's great to chat with you in the 'You're Welcome Art Cafe' - mine's a chocolate frappe please waiter :-)

Hi All,
My name is Cyril and I am the volunteer 'Social Reporter' for the Barnwood Trust. As for art that I like; I really enjoy the written words. Language fascinates me. I love poetry and I've written two novels myself!

Thanks for the invitation to be apart of this group I look forward to reading through the conversations this will generate.

Thanks for link correction Ana (I left out the l on the end)
Interesting links, with the first, Leif Art and animal prints are my favs. I
Your second link left me firmly believing art is in the eye of the beholder :-)
Yea, I believe fast moving is what many people want and the media are playing into this ... but if someone has never been encouraged to appreciate the still art is the 'choice' an illusion? Are they living a balanced life?
If we can't sleep or are feeling anxious is appreciating and painting still art better for us than watching YouTube?....

Ceri 3 years ago

Yes, I like your point Bev, and fast media doesn't always give space for our imaginations to be used to their potential. Much as I love multimedia, there's something about staring at a painting that brings a stillness and calm.

My favourite artist at the moment is Janice McGloine. I love her quirky village paintings. :-) I first saw them displayed in the Trioscape Garden Centre, Newent way.

Ana, I'm lovin all your doodles!

I think the media, and the constant avalanche of such is very much to blame. We live in a world of noise and fast moving changing images, perhaps why so many people prefer the stillness and often the mystery of traditional paintings.

What is art?

Hmmm, decorative, but not really my cup of tea, I found them a bit boring to look at, but then I've never been a fan of contrived still life scenes, Its kind of difficult to find any questions or meaning. But then that's the beauty of art, that we all like different things!

Good question Ana, and of course when Modern Art took that step, that first time, it WAS true art, but ceases to be when its mimicked by others trying to make a name for themselves, it wasn't the urinal that was art but the IDEA behind it, taking the mundane and really appreciating its design. Ceri, have never been formally involved in any star gazing groups but I do follow the space weather daily forecasts etc, very useful website, gives you a daily weather forecast for space, tells you if there is a chance of seeing the northern lights or meteor shower in your location, and you can even check out what satellites will fly overhead and how bright they will be http://www.spaceweather.com/
